Restoring Order to Domestic Construction

Calder & Mason began following repeated encounters with the casual compromises typical of British residential building: unverified timber stock, hurried drywall taping masquerading as plasterwork, and vague estimates that expanded without warning.

We chose an older, more disciplined route. Our refurbishment works are built around verified materials: Scandinavian C16 structural softwood, British Gypsum multi-finish, and engineered European prime oak. Every timber pack is inspected for moisture equilibrium at delivery, and every stud wall is plumb-checked before boarding.

We dispense with intermediate sales agencies and inflated subcontractor markups. Our clients communicate directly with named lead tradespeople, receive transparent milestone billing, and settle invoices via bank transfer or cash upon completed project phases.

Our Approach to Standards

We inspect all timber deliveries for straightness and moisture content prior to framing. Wall planes and joinery margins are audited systematically before practical sign-off.

Principles of Site Practice

Itemised fixed quotations

Every single trade hour and material allowance is set down in writing before work begins on site.

Dedicated site manager

A single qualified lead tradesperson coordinates your property from initial strip-out to final clean-down.

Punctual trade hours

Tradespeople arrive promptly at eight in the morning and leave the workspace tidy by late afternoon.

Proven material provenance

We procure Scandinavian C16 framing timber and mineral paints directly from reputable regional merchants.

Containment of dust

Zip-sealed screening and heavy surface protection isolate work areas from your daily living quarters.

Settlement check visit

We return to your home a month after completion to inspect minor shrinkage and trim door clearances.

Enduring renovation comes down to two quiet virtues: dead-plumb timber framing and the patience to refuse defective materials at the kerb.
Alistair Finch, Head of Site Operations and Carpentry

Material Provenance

We specify dense, accredited timbers and British plasters designed for decades of service. We never introduce unrated budget compounds.

Contractual Clarity

Every scope of work defines every trade hour and fixture allowance in writing before tools arrive on site.

Respectful Conduct

We protect your living quarters with sealed screening and heavy-duty floorboards, working strictly to disciplined hours.
